The Non-Proliferation Treaty and North Korea, Dual Delegate

This year's Novice Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) will be focusing on the Non-Proliferation Treaty and its connection to North Korea. Due to past tensions with North Korea, America, and neighboring states, it becomes important to understand and analyze the issue on a global level. This committee focuses on international peace and security and this particular issue remains a threat. Therefore, it is this committee's job to create a resolution addressing various aspects of this problem and create peace among nations.

UNEP

UNEP

Biotechnology, Single Delegate

The United Nations Environmental Programme aims to address the different threats that exist today in regards to our environment. These threats can be natural or man-made and affect both animals and plants equally. Our debate circulates around the transportation and usage of genetically modified and living modified organisms internationally. While some international regulations do exist, it is our job to update these regulations to account for technological advances in both CRISPR and GMOs in general.

Marvel

Marvel: Novice Crisis

Marvel Civil War, Single Delegate

New Legislation is causing division within the community of superheroes. A civil war is about to emerge between the two sides. Delegates in this committee must take on iconic roles to solve the crisis at hand. Delegates will actively send crisis notes and pass directives to help alleviate (or potentially further) the crisis at hand.

Tackling the Food and Water Crisis, Single Delegate

With water shortages projected to affect over half of the global population by 2050 and a staggering 1,800 child deaths linked to lack of safe drinking water, access to water is an incredibly pressing issue. Different regions and countries face various water problems, whether it be water scarcity, or pollution and contamination. As this committee will discuss, water is the root of a variety of problems, as it is used as a means and method of war and leaves girls lacking proper education, hindering the development and prosperity of countries around the world.

Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisers, and Distinguished Guests,

My name is Malaika Jamal, and it is my distinct honor to serve as the very first Secretary-General of VRMUN 2020. On behalf of our entire team, I welcome you to the first Valley Regional Model United Nations Conference on February 8th, 2020 at Granada Hills Charter High School in Los Angeles, California.

We strongly believe in the core value of bringing out the best in every Model United Nations delegate regardless of any experience. At VRMUN, each delegate will have the opportunity to learn, grow, speak, and share in a supportive and intriguing environment. We welcome all beginners to the Model United Nations world and hope to provide an educational and beneficial experience. VRMUN this year will be filled with lively topics for debate that will cater to a wide variety of interests. Delegates will have the opportunity to choose from large and small General Assemblies, an intimate yet exciting Marvel crisis committee, and plenty of novice committees for beginners. These committees will challenge delegates to become critical, creative, and collaborative in order to resolve the global issues at hand.

Our entire team is working tirelessly to ensure a mind blowing experience for each and every delegate and faculty advisors alike. Our staff is composed of skilled and experienced facilitators who are passionate and have a strong MUN background. All of us at VRMUN are dedicated to each delegate’s personal and professional growth and strive to ensure that delegates at this conference will develop skills that will apply beyond the wold of Model United Nations.

I hope VRMUN will provide roots in diplomacy, public speaking, research and empower delegates as it has to me. I am excited to embark on this innovative journey and hopefully will be able to re-create the MUN experience that made me fall in love with MUN.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for any further inquiries: m32134@student.ghctk12.com. The entire VRMUN team is working hard and we cannot wait to welcome you to VRMUN this February!
